Last checked: October 1, 2026

Key facts

  • Eden Prairie has no city-run garbage service. You choose a licensed private hauler.
  • Community Drop-Off Day is once a year (June 27 in 2026), free for residents.
  • Appliances, electronics and tires go to spring and fall recycling events or a county facility.
  • Hazardous waste goes to a Hennepin County drop-off facility, never the trash.

Garbage and recycling pickup

Several private companies are licensed to collect garbage and recycling in Eden Prairie. What each one takes (trash, recycling, organics, yard waste) varies, so check with the company. The city also publishes a residential garbage zone map.

Community Drop-Off Day: what to know

  • Not accepted: appliances, electronics, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, hazardous waste, tires and yard waste.
  • Gas-powered equipment only if drained of all fluids.
  • Items must be in the trunk, cargo area, pickup bed or trailer, not the passenger area. No commercial vehicles or moving trucks.
  • Bikes in any condition are collected for donation.

Hazardous waste

Paint, solvents, pesticides, batteries and similar items can’t go in your garbage. Take them to a Hennepin County drop-off facility (free for households). The city also says Eden Prairie residents may use the Environmental Center in Chaska (116 Peavey Circle).

Yard waste

Grass, leaves and branches go to the free city Yard Waste Site or through your hauler. See the Eden Prairie yard waste guide.

Missed the event? Other options

The city events only happen a few days a year. Between them, you can use the county drop-off facilities, donate usable furniture (see furniture donation pickup), or get a junk removal quote for a pickup on your schedule.
