Rules to know before you go
- Sort your load. Materials must be separated, and you unload them yourself.
- Bring your bags home. Empty every bag on site and take it with you. There are no trash bins.
- Secure your load on the way in and out. Losing material on the road can get your access denied.
- No dirt, rocks or lumber. They damage the city’s equipment. Loads with banned material are rejected and can lead to fines.
- No smoking. The site doesn’t give away compost.
Other ways to get rid of yard waste
- Curbside pickup through your hauler. Ask your licensed Eden Prairie garbage hauler whether they offer yard waste pickup, and at what price.
- Backyard composting for leaves, grass and garden scraps.
- Other Hennepin County yard waste sites if you live elsewhere in the county or need a weekday option.
- Hire a junk removal crew for big cleanups, storm debris, or the things the city site won’t take (stumps, sod, soil, rocks, old landscaping timbers). They load everything, so you don’t need a trailer.
